until now …

GIORGOS TSAKIRIS

Solo exhibition from November 10 to December 12, 2013

The solo exhibition – retrospective from 1980 … until now by George Tsakiris, could be characterized as a kind of connection of ideas that the artist has developed around the function of nature in the work of art and beyond.
Nature itself for G. Tsakiris is the object.
Thus preceded the interventions with the “Gardens” 1984 in the same natural landscape as the “Cherries” 1985 on Mount Paiko, the “Greenhouse” 1992 in Geni Mosque, the “Aquarium” 1994, the “Snail Breeding” and the “Pigeons 1995, “Frogs in hibernation” 1996, “Spinning machines” 1997, 2000,2012, “Flour” at the Alexandria Biennale 1997, “Still Life” 1999, “Bread Mold” in Stockholm, Weimaki, Prague, Elsin (European Capitals of Culture 1997-2000), the “Worm of Xenophobia” in the context of the 2004 Olympic Games, the “Cypriot” 2012., etc.
G. Tsakiris functions as an organizer of those ways and conditions through which nature will function in its absolute self-sufficiency.
They are functional installations guided by the idea that nature should not be distorted in its composition – organically and biologically.
Denis Zacharopoulos, art historian and artistic director of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, notes in the book that accompanied the large retrospective exhibition of G. Tsakiris at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art:
(…) through this education G. Tsakiris is one of the important artists who seal his generation, keep a serious distance from the moral and social slump that the service society will impose on a society of production of work and importance from the 80’s onwards internationally. (…)
G. Tsakiris is a professor at the School of Fine Arts of AUTh.
